Instructions for students on how to access Piazza forums through Canvas
Before You Start
When you start using Piazza, you will be asked to provide some information on three web pages. The information you provide will depend on whether you wish to participate in Piazza Careers, which is an additional, optional service that Piazza offers to put students in touch with prospective employers. If you decide that you want to use Piazza Careers, you'll need to create a Piazza account and provide some personal information. If you wish to use Piazza solely for discussions in your course and not to use Piazza Careers, you can avoid sharing personal information with Piazza.
When you first click on the link to access Piazza from your Canvas course you will arrive on the page below.
PLEASE NOTE: Creating an account with piazza is optional and only necessary if you plan on accessing Piazza outside of Canvas, from a mobile device, or if you want to register for Piazza Careers. If you decide to sign up, please make sure to create a unique password that you are not using for any other site or service, such as your email.
On this page you must either add the degree you are pursuing or check the box next to “I’m not pursuing a degree.” This information is used solely by Piazza and has no relation to Canvas or the University of Penn, but may be useful if you plan on registering for Piazza Careers.
On this page you must choose whether or not you would like to register with Piazza Careers. Checking the option “I’m open to hearing…” will take you to www.Piazza.com/Careers, where you will be asked to fill out a form regarding your career preferences. Checking the option “I don’t need any help…” will take you directly into Piazza.
Once you have successfully logged into Piazza through Canvas take a moment to familiarize yourself with the site. Questions from your class will appear on the left side of the screen. You can find the Settings button in the top right corner to adjust account information and notification settings.
