Video Playback Issues

Open Canvas has a known issue affecting video content added from Panopto. Sometimes, videos will stop and start randomly. Other times, videos stop altogether. Fortunately, there are a few simple fixes

Fastest Solution: Open the Video in the Panopto Player

Navigate to the video that you would like to view in your course site. At the bottom right-hand corner, you will see an arrow. Once you click on that arrow, it will open up the Panopto player in a new tab.

Solutions for Viewing a Video in a Course Site

Please try these solutions in the following order:

  1. 1. Use an Updated Version of Firefox

The playback issue tends to happen in Chrome, so if you are using Chrome, please try playing the video in Firefox. If you need to update or install Firefox, please use these instructions:

  1. 2. Clear Your Cache

If you need to use Chrome, or if the issue is happening in Firefox, please try clearing your cache, closing your browser, opening a new browser, accessing the course site, and playing the video.

Clear your browser's cache by following these instructions:

  1. 3. Test Your Internet Speed

If the issue persists after you clear your cache, please test your internet speed to make sure it is fast enough to support video playback:

If your internet speed is below 1 Mbs, please try playing the video from another location with an internet speed of at least 1 Mbs.

  1. 4. Still Doesn’t Work? Open the Video in the Panopto Player

If steps 1-3 do not fix the issue, please follow the instructions above to open the video in the Panopto player.
