Overview

Zoom's AI Companion for Meetings and Whiteboard is available to Penn instructors.

Please Note:

  • You must have the most recent update of the Zoom app to ensure AI Companion will work: Update the Zoom app.

Zoom's AI Companion can assist with the following:

  • Meeting Summary Generate a summary and next steps of what was discussed in your meetings.
  • In-Meeting Questions - Quickly catch up and get clarity on what you missed during a meeting without interrupting.
  • Smart Recording - Review cloud recordings faster through highlights, smart chapters, summaries, and next steps, and get analytics on key meeting and conversation factors.
  • Content GenerationGenerate ideas, refine and extend existing content, and add objects to a canvas in Zoom Whiteboard.

Enable or Disable the Zoom AI Companion

Before toggling this setting on, please carefully read ISC's document to help you navigate this feature and to decide if it is a good fit for you and your class: ISC's Guidance on Zoom AI Educational Use.

To enable or disable for your own use:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal by navigating to https://upenn.zoom.us/  (and if asked to log in after pressing sign in, Log in with SSO button; do not type in your email in the log-in area)  When asked for domain, type upenn.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Settings.
  3. Click the AI Companion tab.
  4. Toggle on which aspects of AI Companion you would like to use for meetings and if you would like to use the Content Generation AI feature inside of Zoom Whiteboard.

Please note:

  • When you toggle on an AI Companion feature such as Meeting Summary, additional permission settings become available, such as who can view the Meeting Summary and who can ask In-Meeting questions. As the host of the meeting, your settings are the default of the room.
  • Enabling Zoom AI Companion for your Zoom account does not mean it is automatically enabled for each Zoom session you host or turned on immediately (unless you select that option in the settings). You will still be able to determine if you would like to use AI for each meeting individually, similar to the Record feature in Zoom. Additionally, you can turn the AI Companion summary feature on and off during a meeting as well.
  • If you turn on AI Companion Meeting Summary and then decide you do not want to use that feature, you can turn off the AI Companion at any point and then select the checkbox to delete all meeting assets that were generated. (Picture Below)turn off ai companion pop up with delete meeting assets unchecked
  • Participants will be notified that AI Companion is turned on for the meeting they are attending. This pop-up is similar to the record notification Zoom participants receive when the meeting will be recorded, allowing the individual to leave the meeting if they do not consent.
