Overview
Penn Libraries use a software called Leganto for Course Reserves. Instructors can roll over course materials from a past session (recommended) or can start a New Course Materials list from scratch.
Reusing Course Materials from a Previous Session
If you would like to re-use materials that you have placed on reserve in a previous course, please follow the steps below:
- Start in the new site.
- Open Course Reserves at Penn (If Course Reserves is hidden from the left navigation panel - use these Canvas Navigation Menu instructions to place Course Reserves back into your navigation panel.)
- Choose the option to “Create list from an existing list” by clicking “Select existing list” on the right.
- Find the list you want to copy and choose “Duplicate list”. This will create a copy of the previously created list for the new course site.
- You will be given a title for the new list but you can change this now. You’ll be asked “Do you want sharable links to the original list to redirect to the duplicated list once it is published?” We generally advise the following:
- Choose “No” if the course you’re copying from is still active (not recommended most sites are no longer active)
- Choose “Yes” if the course you’re copying from is no longer active.
- Click “Create List”.
Please note: Course Reserves lists do not copy over as part of Canvas Course Copy/Import.
Starting a New Course Materials List
- Start in your new course site.
- Select Course Reserves at Penn from the left-hand navigation menu (if it is missing, please use these Canvas Navigation Menu instructions to place Course Reserves back into your navigation panel.)
- Select “Create a new list from scratch” > “Create new list” to start.
- Provide a title for the list and click “Next.”
- Create sections if desired, then click “Create list.”
- Add Items to your list by selecting "Add - Search the Library" which will open up a new window for you to enter in your search fields. For additional ways to add items and other resources to your new list, please see the Leganto documentation.
Please Note:
- All digital resources will be immediately available to you and your students once it is added to the site.
- To see how this area looks for students, use the View as Student link provided inside the Course Reserves menu - the built-in Canvas "View as Student" button will not work in this area.
