For faculty and staff who are interested in creating and managing video content, Panopto is a video creation and storage platform that integrates into Canvas. With Panopto, enables users to organize existing videos, record materials, perform inside-video searches, take quizzes, administer quizzes, and more.
Benefits of the Platform
- Allows faculty and staff to create, manage, and share asynchronous content for class discussion and other assignments, which is especially useful for online courses with instructors and students in different time zones.
- Supports use on mobile devices (tablets and phones).

Tutorial & Workshop Videos
- Panopto 101 for Faculty & Staff Tutorials: a video-tutorials series covering how to create and edit content in Panopto, including basic and advanced editing, adding captions, and adding quizzes.
- Panopto for Remote Teaching Workshop (PennKey required): a recording of a workshop by SAS Online Learning's media and technology experts covering how to create and edit content in Panopto, as well as how to add Panopto content to Canvas.
Panopto Application vs Panopto Capture (Browser Version)
We recommend using the Panopto Application from your desktop or laptop computer to create the best content possible. However, if your Panopto application is not working, you can use Panopto Capture which is the browser version of Panopto.
You can now access both versions of Panopto via your New Rich Content Editor located in your Canvas Course.
Simply select the green Panopto triangle, circled in the image below.
After clicking the green Panopto triangle you can choose from three options: Choose a video to share (from already created content in the classes Canvas folder), Upload a New Video, or Record a New Panopto video.
