About Honorlock

Your SAS Online Learning course may use Honorlock, a remote proctoring tool that provides a secure, accessible, and equitable testing experience while ensuring academic integrity. For more information about student privacy and accessibility, please see Honorlock's Student Privacy and Accessibility page.

Before the Exam

Communicate with your instructor if you have any questions about the upcoming exam. Additionally, let your instructor know about any accommodations before the exam. Read through this What is a Proctored Exam? & What to Expect document.

General Exam Best Practices:

  • Use a well-lit room with no one else that could potentially enter the video frame.
  • Have a good internet connection, a functioning webcam, and a microphone.
  • Make sure your workspace is clear of any non-necessary items, such as scrap paper and/or your cell phone.
  • Do not have a radio or TV playing in the background.
  • Make sure you have camera permissions enabled in Chrome: Device Camera Permissions

Honorlock-Specific Exam Instructions:

  1. Download the Honorlock Chrome Extension.
  2. Have an ID ready that shows your picture and your name.
  3. Access your exam through Canvas.
  4. Perform a quick 60-second check-in for the exam. This will entail showing your ID and moving the webcam around so Honorlock can view the workspace. You will start your exam after you successfully complete this process.

During the Exam

  • Honorlock will pause the exam if your webcam is turned off or if you leave the frame of view. To minimize the chance of this happening, try to sit at a desk rather than a couch or chair.
  • Honorlock Support is easy to access during the exam. There will be a help chat bubble in the bottom right of your exam that you can use to connect with support in case of an issue.
  • Life happens - if for instance, a child runs into the room while you are taking the exam or something occurs that you think may have triggered a flag that your instructor will review, do not panic. Continue taking the exam and send an email to your instructor afterward.
