About the Immersive Reader Inside Canvas

The Immersive Reader is a tool that helps students read Canvas pages more easily. It can read the text on the page aloud with the voice and speed that the student chooses. It provides a simple background with simple text which many students can find helpful to concentrate on dense material.

The immersive reader has other helpful features too, such as:

  • Changing the size and type of the font
  • Changing the colors of the text and the background
  • Translating the text to a different language (many languages are supported)
  • Showing a picture to explain a word (not available for every word)
  • Focusing on one line at a time
  • Splitting words into syllables and parts of speech

Accessing the Immersive Reader

The Immersive Reader is available on all Canvas pages, assignments, and syllabi in the top right corner.

The Immersive Reader is not available in Canvas Quizzes.
